So last night I went to see the Death and Dismemberment Tour, featuring Death Cab for Cutie and the Dismemberment Plan at the Metro here in Chicago. I almost didn't go even though I've had my tickets for probably a month and a half because the air turned bitter cold, and the idea of taking the train to Wrigley Field and walking did not sound fun. I'm glad I got over it.
I remember getting this excited about a few bands in my history of loving live performances; seeing Smashing Pumpkins in '96, meeting Fleming and John on their Valentine's Day show also in '96, Self in '95, Tonic in '97; and I got that same excited giddy feeling as I leaned over the upper balcony, front and center, at the Metro last night. I took over 100 pictures of the bands, and as I looked through them this morning it happened again! Excited and giddy like a groupie.
And groupie I was! After the show I got to meet Travis, the lead singer--shake his hand and spew out some drivel about how big of a fan I was. He looked me in the eye and smiled, turning me into groupie goo. 23-year-old groupie goo...who knew?
I think I made a D-Plan convert out of Dave, who accompanied me. And those of you that missed it, missed out. Imagine it: sold out show, a sea of people beneath the best spot in the house; front and center on the balcony with a perfect view. This must be what heaven is like.
Anyways, check out the gallery. It was an amazing night.
