Okay, I'm out for the weekend. I'm flying to Nashville tomorrow for less than 24 hours to pack a truck and then drive back up here to Chicago. It will be insane. But I'll have my stuff so it will be oh so worth it. Enjoy the new splash and photos, I'm going to catch a train. See ya..
I managed to get on someone's computer with ultradev and so I finally put up the long awaited, highly anticipated pictures of where I live. (I know you've been waiting all day for these) Sorry there aren't that many--I took them with a disposable camera. I'm looking into digital, but we'll see...maybe I should become a Chicago photoblogger, eh?
My friend Mojan just showed me this site which featured this really nice flash presentation from a photographer's trip to India. Really nice work! And it's all made by this company called Tanagram (sporting a rad website also) based out of Chicago. Just more proof that all the cool people are in Chi-town. :)
My friend who works the switchboard emailed this to some people. Entitled "Stories from the Switchboard (#1)":

1:39 p.m.
Eric: Good afternoon; Baha'i National Center.
Caller: Uuuuhhhhhh, I think I have the wrong number.
Eric: (pause)
Caller: But this is California, isn't it?
Eric: No; Evanston, Illinois.
Caller: (pause) So this isn't the office of Quentin Tarantino?
Eric: No, it isn't.
Caller: I'm very sorry. Goodbye.
Eric: Goodbye.
I feel wierd about this. Not sure what that's all about.
Ever seen the Rammstein website? Well I hadn't until just now. Pretty cool flash intro...just disturbing enough to make me enter.
Frankie went off. I can't say I really have an opinion one way or the other, but I'm smiling.
Song: Monkey Gone to Heaven, the Pixies. On repeat.
A poignant quote I found this morning
Equality between men and women is conducive to the abolition of warfare for the reason that women will never be willing to sanction it. Mothers will not give their sons as sacrifices upon the battlefield after twenty years of anxiety and loving devotion in rearing them from infancy, no matter what cause they are called upon to defend. There is no doubt that when women obtain equality of rights, war will entirely cease among mankind. (`Abdu'l-Baha: Promulgation of Universal Peace*, Page: 175)
Booya!
Holy cow, this site is amazing. It's like a Baha'i version of a mix between submethod and untitled. Be sure and check out the temporary portfolio. Beautiful work.
I just got off the phone with the printer, and it was pointed out to me that I said "diuretics" instead of "diacriticals." Hm. I think I get the my-life-is-a-joke award for that.
We just had a power surge here at work, and I have to say I am among the fortunate to have a huge power backup under my desk. I get 7 minutes if the power goes out, allowing me to save before I get shut down. Isn't that handy?
Song: Siren, by Tori Amos. My favorite song of hers.
I kinda feel a little guilty for reading this week's Onion, but it's good to see they kept their risky sense of humor at the world's recent events, and I think it was pretty well done. If you feel you're up for a (slightly guilty) laugh go read it.
Beautiful (and well written to boot) story @ lauraholder.
Whoa! Arlo used my photo days ago and I didn't even notice! Well hey, there it was. Go check out the archive, I'm the elbow.
Did anyone catch the all-star tribute telethon on tv last friday? If you missed it, you missed out: it was great. The quality of the performances was better than to be expected from a live taping, and it was genuinely touching. Alicia Keys was INCREDIBLE...she is one very talented girl. I hope she gets to be really famous. And I hear they made over $150million for United Way! Awesome! via cnn.
God bless it, untitled is back. Beautiful. Genius. True artists. I love this site.
email of the morning:
I was walking from the Lamar Dodd BLDG to the tanner
BLDG. And I was like thinking of you when it was dark
and you would have the desire for a coke and I would
escort you so da boogie man would not get you. And I
wanted to call you.. and thank you...
So, Thank you Lacey,
Daniel Abernathy
Whee! I finally got lay-c.com up. This is the new home of my weblog, formerly located @ lacey.pitas.com. I really have enjoyed laceydotpitas, and it has gained traffic over the 15 or so months it's been in existence. It's given me a vehicle to say what I want to say, and for that I'm grateful. I have been a fan of the dot-coms, and the short domain names for a while though, and that's why I decided to go with lay-c.com...that and it offers hosting :) SO anyways, welcome, khosh-a-madeed (welcome in farsi), and thanks for coming. :)
Oh yeah, while I'm talking, I should say that I have plans for putting my portfolio up, and I actually have a half-finished design waiting to be used for that. But I want to be sure I get everything completed. I no longer have a comptuer at home, either, so I need to keep everything as simple as possible. Dig?
